Same Sex Couples or a Commitment Ceremonies for those who do not want a registered marriage. I support Marriage Equality.
A CIVIL COMMITMENT
Some couples may not wish to have a registered marriage ceremony but would like to publicly express their commitment to each other.
This can be done with a commitment ceremony which is very similar to a wedding ceremony but does not use the words prescribed by law and of course is not recognised as a legal marriage.
A commitment ceremony is also appropriate for gay and lesbian couples. In Australia, same sex marriages have not yet been recognised in law, but to the couples concerned their commitment to each other is the same as in any other wedding ceremony. I do support marriage equality and believe that in time, same sex couples will be able to marry in Australia. Until then, you can have a commitment ceremony and register your relationship with the N.S.W. Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
The ceremony follows a similar format to a marriage ceremony but is not registered as a marriage. However, you may register your relationship. (see link below for Registration Application form for a Relationship. Contact me and I can write a ceremony that suits your personal needs and wishes.
